Wend
has worked in mixed media over the years and finds himself being
drawn back to it again and again for its spontaneity and lack of convention. The freedom
of using "found" materials and the evocative shadows
created from the 3-dimensional forms allow Dan's mixed media
pieces to change with the light quality, angle and intensity.

This work started
as a study in texture and evolved into a work of texture, color,
form and emotion. As a work like this develops, it provides a
succession of impressions and inspirations along the way in the
creative process that push and pull the artist in a certain direction.
As this art neared completion, I felt as though the finished
work had become greater than the sum of its stages - the ultimate
goal.
This, and other
of my dimensional, mixed media works, change their appearance
with the changing quality and angle of light throughout a day.
Low-angle light creates dramatic contrasts and shadows on the
art surface.
