These artworks were inspired by a series of photographs I took in several North American cities of architectural details, ornaments, gargoyles, and grotesques. A modern day creative Frankenstein - I brought these monochromatic characters back to life from the imaginations of stone sculptors and terracotta artists of another century. I changed the colors, tones, and contrasts in Photoshop before I reinterpreted them with paint or oil pastel on canvas or paper, making creative revisions and accents to the images as I painted. The results are a shared artistic vision with, and homage to, skilled artisans of the past.
